Well, the Lunar New Year is the most important holiday in Vietnam. We also call it as “tet”. Some days before tet, we start to prepare for it. We buy new clothes, food and make beauty. And we clean up, decorate the house. In each altar, there is a tray with 5 kinds of fruit, often they are cau, sung, vua, du, xoai whose names show our wishes about the New Year. And we cook a traditional food called ‘banh tet’ which is made from sticky rice, grease, green beans and wrapped in the banana leaves. The taste of it is delicious. Well, The offprings living in all over Vietnam try come back home to enjoy tet with family. On the New Year eve, we have a big meal, we talk about events happening in the past year and wait the New Year to come. The atmosphere is eager, happy with the laugh of everyone and the noise of kids playing games. When it’s 0:00 o’clock, we burn the mini firework bars and say: happy new year!!! On the first day of the New Year, we always visit our relatives, wish each other a new year with full of success, happiness, etc…especially with kids, they will receive the lucky money in red envelopes. After this day, we usually go to pagoda. There, we pray for our family good health. We also visit our former teachers to express our gratitude to the ones who educated us become knowledgeable people like now. Then we seek for entertainment such as going to flower market, cinema, theatre, etc….what are my next new year resolutions, well, I guess I will choose a caller to come to my house on the new year eve to give my family a lucky year, then I will travel far like going to Da Lat or Nha Trang.
